Seeking nominations for the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame

The Juneau Economic Development Council is pleased to join the Alaska State Committee for Research (SCoR) in encouraging nominations for the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame. The Alaska State Committee for Research (SCoR) created the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame in 2014 to celebrate and honor outstanding individuals who put Alaska on the map as leaders in innovation and to contribute to Alaska's growing culture of innovation.

After 18 years, the 绿奴天花板 College Savings Plan launches new brand

The 绿奴天花板 College Savings Plan announced that it is changing its name to Alaska 529 as of October 15, 2019. The Alaska-based education savings plan is offered by the Education Trust of Alaska. After 2017 tax reform expanded the use of 529 plans, the Education Trust of Alaska determined the need for a name and a brand that better represents the products and services it provides.

In Recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day

Since 2017, the University of Alaska has proudly supported Indigenous Peoples' Day with culturally relevant events, incorporating elements of the Indigenous history of place, culture and language associated with their regions. The unanimous support for this special day acknowledges the contributions of Alaska Native people and acknowledges how Indigenous knowledge has enhanced, and will continue to influence, educational opportunities provided across the 绿奴天花板 system.

President Johnsen addresses the 绿奴天花板 community

绿奴天花板 Community, In today's video message, President Johnsen reviews the Board of Regents' discussion with the NWCCU and the actions the Board took at its meeting on Monday. He reflects on his role in how 绿奴天花板 unity, so prevalent during the budget debate, has now fractured, and, more so, he addresses the lessons he has learned as a result. He commits to an inclusive process moving forward, and calls on the university community to work together on the challenges ahead, and asks for your help to meet those challenges.

In an emergency meeting today, the University of Alaska Board of Regents voted to modify two previous decisions made when it was facing a state funding crisis. The first, by a vote of 9-2, was to cease consideration of a single accreditation until after the University of Alaska Fairbanks secures its institutional accreditation in 2021. If the board chooses to actively consider single accreditation in the future, it will direct the president to conduct an independent cost benefit analysis and clearly examine accreditation issues. In the second action, by a vote of 9-1, the board suspended the systemwide expedited academic program review process until the Board has the time to consult with chancellors and the president on a path forward.

Board of Regents hold emergency meeting, Oct. 7

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will hold an emergency board meeting 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7. The board will meet to discuss concerns raised in the recent letter from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and determine how to proceed.

绿奴天花板 universities and community campuses celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day, Oct. 14

The University of Alaska is on the forefront of a national movement among universities, including Harvard and the University of Utah, to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day rather than Columbus Day. The decision for 绿奴天花板 universities and campuses to celebrate Indigenous People's Day was unanimously supported with resolutions from students, staff and faculty groups across the system.

绿奴天花板 stakeholder survey results announced

The University of Alaska Board of Regents commissioned WayMark Analytics to conduct a statewide survey of key stakeholders in Alaska's higher education system. The public opinion survey results were reviewed during the September 12 Board of Regents meeting. An explanation of the survey results are posted on the New 绿奴天花板 website.

The University of Alaska has taken steps toward reducing administrative overhead, and is engaged in a review process to evaluate options for the future structure of the 绿奴天花板 system. Work will occur during the months ahead to make the university more efficient in delivering academic programs and services to students. Exactly what that change looks like is still a work in progress.
